Valmae asks, “My query is related to keeping track of income and expenditure. What do others recommend as the easiest and most efficient method of tracking our money? Is there some great cheap or free oily rag software or already set up spreadsheet? Would be great to hear what others find useful and simple and user friendly.”

I am with Kiwibank which has a service attached to it which shows how much you earn and spend as well as where you’ve spent it. It also allows you to form a budget as well as a savings plans and shows you how much you’ve spent on food, household expenses etc. I hope you find this helpful
Try Gnucash, it’s cross-platform and free: Get it here: http://www.gnucash.org/
SPS, Waikato. “Valmae, there’s a great NZ website that is good for budgets etc. http://www.sorted.org.nz.”
I used Microsoft Money for years. Still do. You can now download it for free, no support for banking online interface, but great for tracking and budgets –
