“Examples of pet insurance plans (Southern Cross Pet Insurance)
GoldRibbon plan with zero per cent co-payment:
- Cats: $39.61 a month
- Samoyed (select breed dog): $95.94 a month
- Border Collie (non-select breed): $63.96 a month
Policy period of 12 months. Claim up to $10,000 a year. Covers accidental injury, illness, inherited conditions. Pets must be between 8 weeks and 6 years at time of application for insurance policy
Routine qualifying treatments (vaccinations, health checks) an optional extra $75 per treatment to a maximum of $150 a year. Optional add-on of dental care at 20 per cent (you pay 20 percent of the cost and Southern Cross pays 80 per cent up to the benefit limit) mandatory co-payment. Claim up to $300 a year.
Pet-n-Sur Gold plan
- Cats: $29.56 a month
- Samoyed (select breed dog): $54.62 a month
- Border Collie (non-select breed): $41.97 a month
Policy period of 12 months. Claim up to $6000 a year. Covers surgical procedures and medical treatments. Non-select breeds of dogs and cats can be insured as long as they’re under 12 years old. Select breeds must be six years or under. Things like routine dental treatments, flea treatments, eye surgeries are not covered.
